The excitement is building across Uganda’s primary schools as the Afro-Junior Schools Championship (AJSC) prepares to host the 3rd Edition of its National Primary Schools Competition. Scheduled for 3rd–5th September 2026 at Green-Top School in Wakiso, the event promises three days of powerful speeches, sharp debates, and inspiring poetry performances.
Organised under the theme “Empowering the Young Minds for Sustainable Development,” the competition brings together young learners in three main categories: Debate, Public Speech, and Poetry. It is more than a contest — it is a platform designed to build confidence, critical thinking, creativity, and leadership skills in primary school children.
AJSC has grown into one of Uganda’s leading youth empowerment organisations. Through its programmes in debate, public speaking, poetry, and leadership development, the organisation has already reached over 56 schools, impacted more than 1,800 learners, trained hundreds of teachers, and supported university admissions for many young people. This year’s national tournament continues that mission by giving primary school pupils a national stage to express their ideas on issues that matter for the future of their communities and the country.
The host venue, Green-Top School in Wakiso, will welcome young competitors, teachers, and supporters for what organisers are calling a true “Clash of the Young Giants.” Outstanding schools and individuals will walk away with trophies, medals, certificates, and exciting prizes, including a computer and cash award for the overall winning school.
With only days remaining, schools across the country are making final preparations. For many pupils, this will be their first opportunity to speak on a national platform — an experience that can shape their confidence and ambition for years to come.
AJSC continues to prove that when young minds are given the chance to speak, think, persuade, and lead, they do not just participate in competitions — they begin to shape the future.
